Why

by Nichelle Fox on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:11pm

Many times I have been asked Why...

Some people want to know; are you a survivor, did you lose your mom, someone you know?

The answer is so simple, yet complex.
I walk because this could happen to me, my daughter, sisters and friends.

I walk because it has happened to many women that I know.
I walk for those that are unable to.

I walk for those that have and are suffering through this dreaded ordeal.
I walk for those that have made it through to the other side on a very difficult ride.

I walk because many women have suffered in silence, alone out of shame, embarrassment, fear and anguish.
I walk because no one in this day and time that we live in should have to go through this.

I walk for those that have been lucky enough to live to share their stories with others.
I walk for those that have gone into remission, "we got it" and the horrid thing returned.

I walk for those women that have been through a single or a double mastectomy. I walk for those that have been very intimate with the porcelain bowl.
I walk for those that don't have the strength to do it.

I walk for those that have watched, assisted and cried for their loved ones as they go through it.
I walk for those women that have lost someone they held dear and loved to this.

I walk because a women's body somewhere is being eaten alive by things invisible to the naked eye.
I walk to support anything that can be done to eliminate this disease.

I walk to help in some way to FIND A CURE!!!!
I walk to help make a difference in someone's life.

I walk to let others know, there is support here for you, someone does care about you and you don't even know me.

I walk so women don't have to be ashamed that their hair has fallen out, they have lost weight, they can't keep any food down, and they are unable to care for themselves, family, children and spouse.

I walk for the women that have been relieved of their source of income due to this illness.
I walk for the women that feel they have lost themselves; they are no longer who they used to be.

They are not - they are a different person, now.
I walk for the stares that women get as they go through chemo, and survive.

I walk as women wait for their hair to grow back.
I walk as women sit for a "new look" or get fitted for a "new look".

I walk because I can and I WANT TO, I HAVE TO.
I walk because I am a woman.

I walk to say THANK YOU for those that suffered and hopefully, given new insights to help those that come after them.

I walk because I know I can help make a difference

Why aren't you...

Nichelle,
Love, Peace & Happiness!

I’m an educator of children with special needs, a happily married mother of 5 that is currently pursuing a Ph.D in public service. I have always had a spot in my heart for breast cancer. I’ve walked for breast cancer for over 12 years. Most recently the impact of breast cancer touched very close and I decided it was time that I do something that could have an impact against breast cancer.

My god mother survived a double mastectomy and then 3 co-workers in succession also received a diagnosis. I knew it was time to stand up and allow my voice to be heard.

I have a vested interest in this fight not for myself, but for every woman, man, child and family that doesn’t have someone to stand up for them.

I stand for those that are unable to stand for themselves. I do my best to reach out to women that are recently diagnosed or completing treatment to let them know that there is support in their community for them.

I try to raise awareness to those that wouldn’t be interested until it has already happened to them or someone close. It’s important for women to know that they can be proactive and not just reactive. Women need to know the importance of a mammogram, a second opinion and immediate treatment.

I’m committed to this fight until we no longer have to fight.

Support comes in many forms and we will accept it many forms. In October, my team Foxs Trotters and I will be walking in the 3 day 60 Mile Walk for a Cure. Our team is a f family that are survivors, fighters and advocates. I train 3-4 days weekly in preparation and lead training walks to help prepare other walkers. We host events to raise awareness, support and funds and I speak at gatherings or functions upon request. The key is to be out there so others know there is support available.

If you are interested in making a donation and having an impact in this fight, please give our page @ www.the3day.org/goto/nichelle. There you can make a donation that is tax deductible, read what we’ve done, upcoming events and watch our countdown to the big event.

We ask that you share this information with your friends as they too may have been touched by Breast Cancer. I stress that breast cancer does not have any boundaries or limitations. No one is left untouched, once it strikes out the impact is far reaching and devastating to all.

I have attached some pics you can choose what you prefer.

I need to raise a minimum of $2300 my personal goal this year is $4,000.

I'm $1,600 from the $2,300.

All monies raised by walkers go towards R&D and to provide services for women in local communities.

It also provides transportation, after care, wigs, mammograms and so much more.

Anticipating the posting!!!

Thanks for your support.
