Beautiful Affliction A Memoir Lene Fogelberg

As much as I love to read I do not normally read women's memoirs but this one caught my attention for several reasons and I am so glad I took the time to ask to review it. As I was sent a copy of the book as well as given one for a review. 

As I sat down to read it I thought to myself you better grab some tissues as you may need it. Well I did not do it. So I had to get up and grab some. As soon as David saw me he said  he knew it would be a book I loved as I am a sentiment fool. Which I must admit I am.

So as I read it I could see this mom dealing with her fears and struggles as she dealt with the possibility of dyeing. So as I read the book I could see myself in her place and I was scared to death. I did not know what to do. Or what she should do. 

In the story you hear her cry's for help and they just break your heart. As well as the love for the man in her life and her two daughters. So as I came to the end of the book and saw how it ended I could not stop asking myself what will happen next. Will there be a sequel and if not why not? As I am sure there are individuals out there like me that wants to know what she is doing now and why.

As I finished this book I also noticed she is writing a new Novel and I can not wait to check it out as I want to see if it is as good as this one.

Stuck in the Passing Lane by Jed Ringel

I  would like to share my thoughts with you on a book I received from the Cadence Group called Stuck in the Passing Lane written by Jed Ringel. In exchange for a review.



I am on who has to have a book grab me right away or I lose interest in it and lay it down and move on. The way I do this is I read the last page and if it seems like something I would like to know more about I will sit down and read the first couple chapters.

So I did this with Stuck In The Passing Lane and there was nothing on the last page to make me want to read it further. But since I did not have anything else to do I thought lets give it a whirl. Which I am glad I did as parts of it was funny. I learned about some new places. Plus I learned more about the dating scene.

Is this a book I would read again most likely not. Would I purchase more of his books? I might just to see what they are like. Would I give this book as a Gift? No, I do not think I would?

But once I got into the book I did enjoy it and I had to know what happened and could not stop reading it until I was done. So that was a good thing. I shared it with David and he thumbed through it and says he might read it one day. But like me he is not  sure if he will or not.

So all in all I would give this book a 4 as it can be funny. It try's to intrigue us. But it does not teach a lesson. Plus some of it can be a tad boring.

Biography

In prior lives, Jed Ringel has been an Ivy League drop-out, a failed sculptor, a morally impoverished Wall Street lawyer (seeking salvation in chasing fallen dictators to repatriate what they stole), and the founder of an IT company the sale of which allowed him to retire. He's also a long-time mentor to a child now aging out of the foster care system, and an avid cook, hiker and gardener who splits his time between Montauk and New York City where parts of the story take place.
