Our Family Cleaning Tips This Week

American FamilySo I thought I would do something different this week and have everyone post there best way
to get a toddler to help you clean and what you do if they do help out.

My biggest challenge is his room for me he will clean it but then he gets frustrated with his dad if he comes in to help as David does it all different from the way I have taught him. So I had to go and teach dad the right way to clean as Charlie says and so I thought I would share some
of the things we do.

The first thing we do is grab three empty buckets, baskets. One is for trash, one for clothes and one for things that do not belong in his room. Then we have a 4th basket for items that belong in a space he is not working on so
we do not keep getting up and down. So we start at the corner closet to the door and  we walk like Monkeys and we grunt and pick up things all around the room once we get back to the door the room is done.
The we move on to the bathroom and he puts on his bathing suit and climbs in the tub and we scrub the walls.  To mop we use our feet and put on rags on them.

For dusting we have to have lots of music and we dance and dance until we wear ourselves
out.
Then in the front room we also have baskets and start at the corner and go around the room
and pick up and once we are done we have to sit down and have cookies and milk. As we watch

David clean the kitchen unless it is just Charlie and I and we wash this dishes which is fun as it
ends up in a water fit.  But of this is the worst thing he does all day I am OK.

What do you do to make housework fun?
Do they have there own cleaning supplies?
Do they get a allowance?
Do you use a chore chart?

We love to turn on music to dance to while cleaning. Our 13 yr old son doesn't look at chores as fun anymore but he happily completes them without a fuss (I'm sure that day will come though...ha!).

However, our 6 yr old little girl loves to help dust with our fuzzy duster, vacuum with our pint sized vacuum cleaner and she uses our homemade cleaners with no worry of toxic chemicals.

They both have a chore chart for us and them to keep track of what they have done. No allowance since these duties are part of being a family member BUT we do give incentives for completing them for the week like a trip to the ice cream shop or their pick of a movie on movie night, etc.
