California Wine Club's 2nd shipment.
When my second shipment of wines arrived from the California WIne Club I knew I would have trouble keeping David from opening it to try out. I did convince him to wait until this past weekend as we where having company and I thought it would make a nice addition to our dinner and game night we were hosting.
I had David put the wines in the icebox to chill. Then when everyone arrived he went and got them out of the icebox and passed them around. I wanted them all to see the bottle and make comments to I would be able to add it to my review, I am glad I did as everyone had different thoughts.
The one thing though that they all agreed on is that we should sign up and have these at our monthly game night, so we would be able to sample new wines. Plus we would not have to go to the store to buy them!! Since some of the members do not have a car this would make it so much easier, as everyone would pay the fee their month to bring the refreshments, and no matter whose house the party is at I would just bring the wine and all the host would need to get are the snacks.
With three different plans to chose from this will make our game night easier and since game night is growing and new people are joining all the time we could either take out 2 memberships or we could just reorder our wines at 50% off the normal retail prices. Which it is always nice to save money, so I am thinking this would be the best way to go.
There are four plans that they offer: the Premier Club, Signature Series, International Selections and Aged Cabernet Series. I like knowing there are 4 plans as it allows them to have something for everyone. The plan we have decided on for Game Night is the Premier Club as it is the one we fill we can afford.
Today I would like to share the wines I was sent in this months collection, but before I do I must tell you they came wrapped in some pretty paper so I could have given them as gifts. I also got there magazine again. David and I both enjoyed the magazines.
Daniel Gehrs Chenin Blanc Knowing it was a White Wine I knew David would most likely enjoy it and he did as David prefers white wine to red. I liked knowing it was made in 1977. Most of the men enjoyed it and a few of the ladies did. They all thought it was smooth and they would not mind trying it again. Even though it claims to be dry, I thought I would not care for it, but once I tried it, I found I did not mind it at all and that I would like to try it again.
Aromas of plums, wild flowers and clover honey lead to a fruity palate of ripe Bartlett pear and melon flavors. The finish is crisp and zesty.

The second bottle we were sent to try was also from Daniel Gehrs Merlot and it was my favorite. All the ladies enjoyed it the most as well. It was not dry. I liked knowing it will go with most meats. I could taste some of the fruits in it and it made it even better. If I had to chose between the two this would be my first choice.
Dustiness, tanned leather and earthiness add complexity to the lush signature black cherry fruit. Tannins are smooth, lending backbone and a long finish.
