A WAHmoment with...Baby Bug Boutique

‎1) What is Baby-Bug Boutique?

Baby-Bug Boutique is a hoome-based store that carries gifts and practical items for parents and children alike.

2) How is the owner and how did it become about?

The owner is Jessica Kidd and Baby-Bug Boutique was created while I was pregnant with our second child and I had the desire to create items for my children, friends and to help make certain tasks in parenting easier on myself. Family and friends became interested in my work and wanted to buy it and on it's own became a business.

3) How long has it been in business?

Three years this November unofficially, and officially 2 and a half years.

4) What makes it different than other baby retailers?

Every item made, is directly made by me in my home. Each item is tested not only efficiency, but practicality. I don't create gifts items that would just be put on a shelf or tucked away in a drawer, but items that can actually be used in every day life.

5) What do you sell and who all do you cater to and what ages?

I sell everything from diaper wreaths to burp cloths, tote bags to ribbon lovies, cushy tushy cases to coupon holders and car seat covers to quilts and everything in between. We take special and custom orders as well. Primarily we cater to the newborn through toddler years, but we also make items for older children, adolescents and adults. Embroidery, personalizing and applique services are available too.

6) Is it all handmade goods?

Other than the baby essentials we put on our diaper wreaths and in our gift baskets (baby wash, lotion, etc), everything is homemade.

7) What is your favorite item to make and least favorite?

My least favorite item to make would be flannel baby wipes, as there isn't much of a challenge in making them. My favorite item to make would be my quilts, as each one, even if based from a previous one, has it's own personality and it is great watching it go from pieces of fabric to a treasure.

8) Where all do you sell at?

We sell online (http://babybugsboutique.ecrater.com and through Facebook http://facebook.com/babybugsboutique), at local craft shows and the Farmer's Market and even have a few items on consignment at our local store called Hand-Me-Downs.

‎9) For someone wanting to start a business what advice would you offer them?

Find something you love doing, don't just start a business because it is "cheap" to start-up or makes you lots of money. Choose something you love doing so that when the going gets tough, you can stick with it no matter what.

10) What are Diaper Bags for Joplin and how can we help with them?

Diaper Bags for Joplin, MO is a service project we started to help the families in Joplin, MO that lost everything. We are making 20 homemade diaper bags with matching burp cloths and then stocking them with baby essentials (diapers, wipes, lotion, wash, diaper rash cream, hand sanitizer, first aid kit, sunscreen, bib, bottle and pacifier). We are also trying to include some kind of toy, stuffed animal or book in each diaper bag. Once they are all complete we will be mailing them to the Freedom Worship Center in Joplin, MO to be distributed to families in need.

Anyone can help by donating fabric, medium weight stabilizer, thread to make the diaper bags with (contact me first to see what we need), the baby essential items (diapers and wipes are covered), Donna Atkinson who is an Independent Scentsy Consultant is taking donations of Scentsy Buddies for the diaper bags (They can be purchased through https://donnaatkinson.scentsy.us/Buy?partyId=39471470 just make sure to contact her first before placing order), or monetary donations through paypal so we can purchase the needed items.
