Would you be so kind as to   tell us who and what is Magic Kitchen?

MagicKitchen.com (the legal name and the one we prefer to use) is a company who cooks, freezes, sells and ships frozen meals. Our healthy, chef-prepared meals are prepared using top-quality fresh produce and ingredients to ensure you receive delicious, nutritious meals that are quick to prepare.

We have two menus, the Home Style Menu with separate Entrees, Sides & Desserts sold individually.

The second meal plan is  MK Meals Special menu, which is great for Seniors & Low Sodium, Diabetic-Friendly & Renal Diets.

We are known for our excellent customer service, and our delicious, easy-to-prepare meals.

Here’s the difference between the two menus:

HomeStyle has parts of the meals sold separately such as Beef Bordelaise in main courses, Scalloped Potatoes in side dishes and Ricotta Cheesecake in desserts. You can mix and match meals this way.

The MK Meal special menu is created by chefs and nutritionists to be full meals with a main and two sides, and the nutritional mix is good for various special diets.

How was it started and is it a franchise?

We were founded in 2005 by Greg Miller and Michelle Tayler. Originally the business was started to offer healthy nutritious, simple meals for seniors, busy families and singles that did not want to cook, did not have the time to cook or did not know how to cook.

One of Greg’s incentives for starting the business was his experience with his elderly father who lived alone and gradually lost weight because he didn't have an interest in cooking.

"We want to help seniors eat more balanced meals," Greg says. “We want to provide good quality meals at a fair price and help people that need special diet meals, people that cannot or do not prepare proper meals for themselves.”

 We aren’t a franchise.

How many people work for you and where are you located? We have three kitchens with head chefs hard at work creating new meals and working at quality control on the ones that are currently on our menu.

In addition, we have a crew at our shipping location in Kansas City, MO. And in our office we have four people working almost around the clock to make sure things run smoothly. We accept calls and answer important emails 24x7.

Why should people use your services? Quality and customer service!

Here are a couple of examples:

A lady called and said that she knew the order had been delivered to her farmhouse as the box was on the step, but there was nothing inside. It turns out that a elk had come to the doorstep and opened the box, taken the cooler and eaten the food in the trees near the house. She knew because of the elk droppings. We shipped the customer the order again no charge due to the extraordinary situation.

I order meals for my mom and she is always so excited to receive them! She has her favorites but tries something new with each order. It brings me peace of mind when I'm traveling and can't take her out grocery shopping. Thanks for such wonderful service!

Anita H.Trying to create a kidney-friendly diet is tough. You have to read every label AND you have to cut out some of your favorite foods. These meals make it easy to stay on track. They're filling and they taste good.

Lori P. Do you cater and do you offer foods for parties?

We don’t cater per se, but it’s definitely an easy way to throw a dinner party!

We had one lady who was supposed to make eggplant Parmigiana for a club meeting, but she couldn’t cook. She ordered ours, called us so we could talk her through heating it up, and got rave reviews!

What types of foods do you carry?

We have always had the MagicKitchen.com HomeStyle menu to be used to select gifts for family and friends in need of meals.

Within a short time of being established, a good portion of our business was focused on ongoing meal programs for our rapidly growing regular customer base.

After a couple years the focus was more and more on special diets, initially low fat, low carb, etc. and then very soon low sodium, diabetic friendly, renal diet friendly as well as dialysis friendly meals.

With the special diets category of meals our separate MK Meals Special Diets Menu was developed.

Do you have items for diabetics? gluten free? soy free? We have a lot of choices on our menu.

Under HomeStyle, we have subcategories in a section called Healthy HomeStyle, which include gluten-free, low fat, low carb, low sodium, diabetic-friendly, dairy-free and vegetarian.

Then in our MK meal special menu, we have sections for seniors, diabetics, weight control, and for those on dialysis or on renal diets.

If someone comes in and orders and is not happy how do you handle this?

We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. http://www.magickitchen.com/guarantee.html.

Here’s a testimonial from a customer: Your prompt attention to providing extraordinary customer service and satisfaction, along with the quality of your meals has made me a customer who will use your services again as well as recommend you.

~Angelique B.And another: I purchased some French Onion soup from MK, in December. It was for my elderly mom, in TX.She has emphysema and was ill with a bronchitis/pneumonia attack.

Mother loves FO Soup! And, when she is ill, it is a very soothing, nutritious food that she enjoys. Your recipe sounded pure/simple....as close to home made as I could get to her at that time, without actually being in TX to make it for her.She loved the MK FO soup, but found the salt content very overwhelming (& she likes salt!) I forwarded that fact to MK. Within a couple of weeks, my mother received a call from MK, with an apology, explanation. The reason for the over-salty taste had been discovered and corrected. And, as well, MK sent her replacements.

My hat is off to MK. I will recommend your business to anyone! It is sooo wonderful to do business with real, live people and to have them listen, respond....investigate, resolve and compensate.

EXCELLENT work! In many ways, you guys are right up there with the pilot who brought the

US Airways plane to a successful, safe landing in the Hudson River.

With appreciation for your manner of doing business, and kindest regards,

~D Abraham

Where are you located and do you have plans to expand to other cities?

Our offices are in Los Altos, CA, but our delivery dispatcher is in Missouri.

We’ve found that the delivery charges across the country are considerably cheaper because we ship from a central location.

How long does it take to get the items you purchase and do you deliver the orders?

MagicKitchen.com can ship everywhere in the continental US within 3 days maximum and do so with very cost effective shipping rates. We can also ship overnight if needed, for an additional charge. We ship using UPS primarily, and FedEx as well.

What is your favorite part of the business and your least favorite

.I love trying the new meals when they come in.

Right now I have some of our new meals in my freezer, and I’ve already tried the Stuffed Peppers, which are Bell Peppers stuffed full of tender, flavorful ground beef and swimming in a great marinara sauce.

My least favorite part of the business must be when there is a big snow storm that delays orders. If an order is inedible when it arrives, whether it’s the fault of a snowstorm or a shipping issue or something else not under our control, we reship at no charge. But even so, we’re bound to end up with some unhappy customers, and that makes us unhappy too.

Where all do you advertise and how do you feel about bloggers-

we advertise on Google, on Food411, and on various coupon sites.

I think bloggers are great and a wonderful way to get the word out about MagicKitchen.com, but unfortunately many of them want free meals and a giveaway, and it becomes too much of a burden financially, with not too much return in orders. I wish more would do what you’re doing!
